This course is designed for site managers and supervisors who inspect and check scaffolds for safe use and complete reports as detailed in the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The course aim is to give an understanding of the types scaffolding and procedures for inspection of basic scaffolds. Candidates will identify the Code of Practice and legislation relating to inspection procedures.

The course is assessed by classroom based theory, practical exercises and computer based training. Assessments will be carried out by written and practical tests.

Please note to book onto this course delegates need to have awareness and experience of scaffolding structures, which would have come from time spent in their individual industry sector e.g. construction, engineering, manufacturing, offshore etc.
This experience would be required to be confirmed by the production of a CV with contactable references and/or certificates. Examples of acceptable experience are –

  • A current CISRS Scaffolder/Advanced Card.
  • Previous attendance on a scaffold appreciation/awareness course.
  • Previous attendance on a Scaffold Inspection course.

Full Course description

Candidates will identify the Code of Practice and legislation relating to inspection procedures.

Candidates will gain knowledge and skills in:

• Understanding the Codes of Practice and Regulations

• Scaffolding components , tubes, boards and fittings

• Ladders, gin wheels and ropes

• Scaffold ties

• Regulations and recommendations of basic scaffolds including: Putlog scaffolds and Independent scaffolds , Independent tied scaffolds , Birdcage and static tower scaffolds , Scaffolds with prefabricated beams , Protective fans and pavement gantry,

Loading bays, roof saddles and splayed roof edge protection

• Practical Inspections and reports

Qualifications.

Candidates will upon successful completion gain the: CISRS Scaffolding Inspection Training Scheme certificate.

Requirements

To attend the SITS course Delegates must provide evidence of one of the following

• A current CISRS Scaffolder card
• A current CISRS Advanced Scaffolder card
• A current CISRS Scaffolding Supervisor card
• A current or expired CISRS Basic Inspection card whilst attending the course in order to renew your card

Delegates must have successfully completed a CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test within 2 years prior to attending the Basic CISRS SITS course or alternatively hold an accepted Health and Safety exemption.

Please note individuals holding CISRS Labourer, Trainee and BASE cards will not be deemed eligible to attend a CISRS Basic SITS course, unless they satisfy the criteria detailed below.

Individuals not holding an eligible CISRS card detailed above wishing to attend the course will be required to submit a CV with contactable references and or/certificates, together with a letter from an employer confirming their awareness and experience of scaffolding structures gained via their role within industry and confirmation that the delegate has had a minimum of 2 years of experience in this role.

Examples of acceptable roles are –
• Scaffold Designer
• Contracts Manager
• Engineer
• Site Agent/Manager
• H&S Manager
• HSE Inspector
• Scaffolding Inspector who has previously attended a non CISRS Scaffold Inspection/Awareness course at least 2 years before the start of the CISRS Basic SITS course.

Delegates who do not have any previous knowledge or experience of scaffolding will not be eligible to attend this course.

Career Advancement.

On completion candidates can progress into Advanced Scaffold Inspection Training.
